Notes on Heterocyclic Compounds

A heterocyclic compound or ring structure is a cyclic compound that has atoms of at least two different elements as members of its ring(s). Heterocyclic chemistry is the branch of organic chemistry dealing with the synthesis, properties, and applications of these heterocycles.

This post contains a brief notes on Heterocyclic Compound (Organic Chemistry). Notes are prepared by Prof. J.M.Khurana (Deptt. of Chemistry, University of Delhi)

Notes on Pericyclic Reactions

Pericyclic reactions are concerted reactions involving cyclic flow of electrons through single transition states.
In organic chemistry, a pericyclic reaction is a type of organic reaction wherein the transition state of the molecule has a cyclic geometry, and the reaction progresses in a concerted fashion. Pericyclic reactions are usually rearrangement reactions.

They can be broadly classifies into:
  1. Sigmatropic
  2. Electrocyclic.
  3. Cycloaddition.
  4. Group Transfer

Topics Covered in these notes are:

  • Huckel Molecular Orbitals for linear pi system.
  • Correlation Diagrams
  • Woodward-Hoffmann Rules
  • Cycloadditions
  • Electrocyclic Reactions
  • Sigmatropic Rearrangements
  • FMO Methods & Dewar's Method
  • Wittig Rearrangements
  • Sommet-Hauser Rearrangements
  • Meisenheimer Rearrangement
  • Cope Rearrangements
  • Claisen Rearranagements
  • Ireland-Claisen Rearrangements
  • Johnson Orthoester Claisen
  • Eschenmoser-Claisen
  • Carrol Rearrangement
  • Ene Reactions
  • Conia Ene Reaction

GATE Chemistry (CY) Previous Year Cutoff List and Marks of Topper

“What was the qualifying cut-off marks for previous years in GATE exam ?
What was the qualifying cut-off marks for GATE 2016 ?
You all must have this kind of questions in your mind. Below article will solve this puzzle of yours. Just take a look.”

Candidates who appeared for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) exam have to secure minimum marks decided by GATE organizing Institute. As GATE exam is conducted every year and number of candidates appeared for GATE exam changes every year. Depends upon various factors GATE exam qualifying cut-off marks also varies year by year. There are two main purpose of attending GATE exam
(1) Getting admission into M. Tech. or P. HD. program and
 (2) Getting a job into any PSU which accept GATE score card.
But for being eligible for these two, candidate first need to qualify GATE exam by securing minimum marks decided by GATE organizing Institute.

Qualifying GATE exam will not assure your about getting admission into any college in India. Cut-offs for getting admission into various colleges into their various programs of higher education depends upon the number of applicants & also depends upon difficulty level of GATE paper for a particular year. So there is one more cut-off which is Institute dependent, if you want to get admission into a certain college / institute then you have to secure marks equivalent or more than the cut-off marks required for getting admission into that particular college.
We have prepared a list of GATE exam qualifying marks from 2011-2016 for Chemistry (CY). Using this list candidates can analyse that how much minimum marks they have to secure in order to qualify GATE 2017 exam.

Detailed List Of Reagents Used in Organic Reactions

This is a Reagent Code List for aiding organic chemistry students in determining the stucture of an Organic Chemistry reaction Product.

Use of reagent code list allows to identify the net reactive species, i.e. the "code" for an organic reaction when a set of reagents, solvents or catalysts are given. foe eg. the reagent group mercury triflouro acetate/water/sodium borohydride "codes" for addition of water to an alkene. all these data are presented in tabular format.

Many students initially have great difficulty with reactions, where above or below the arrows, a series of reactants, solvents and catalysts are written. in this post we've tried to simplify this by providing all possible data in the form of a table.

List consist of 9 different tables containing all important reagents, Table 1 and Table 2 are shown below as SAMPLE
